Ideal Pupil™
Statistically Calculated Optimum Pupil Dimension
|
The "Ideal Pupil" is a statisitically calculated dimension based upon dynamically measured real pupil sizes measured binocularly in six calabrated lighting conditions. These lighting conditions are continuously monitored and adjusted throughout the measurement range which is from scotopic to photopic. Lighting conditons include diffuse lighting and glare sources. The pupil measurements are weighted against lifestyle profiles assessing the relative amounts of time that the patient typically encounters the various lighting conditions. The resultant value is statistically significant to 95% of the patient's typical day-to-day visual experiences. Importantly, the Ideal Pupil is the projection upon the anterior surface of the cornea after the anticipated custom refractive treatment. The Ideal Pupil is a critical compenent to properly sizing refractive surgical treatments, therapeutic surgical treatments, and IOLs. Optimized coverage of the Ideal Pupil is important to assuring that patient's do not suffer unwanted visual sysptoms from an optical zone that is too small, and do not have excessive tissue removed due to the use of a "standard size" optical zone. The pMetrics patent pending technology has significantly improved the standard of care for delivering properly dimensioned refractive surgery. |
