LIGI Tecnologie Medicali S.p.A. began its extensive R&D program in 1993. LIGI's early activities focused on the distribution and sales of Ophthalmic devices and consumables, primarily to the Italian National Health Service, private hospitals and Ophthalmic surgeons.

Founded by engineer Giuseppe D'Ippolito, LIGI recognized early on the potential in small spot scanning refractive lasers and the fundamental importance of the real shape of the cornea. The iVIS custom vision technologies are a sharp contrast from other offerings that base the design of the surgery only upon the refraction / wavefront map with no specific knowledge of the shape or surface of the cornea.

With these key concepts and in collaboration with university affiliated ophthalmic surgery departments, the Company has invested in 16 years of research and development to create the iVIS Suite.

iVIS Technologies was formed in 2006 as a wholly owned subsidiary of LIGI to serve as the global sales, marketing and service arm outside of Italy.
