Dynamic Pupil Assessment

Contemporary refractive and cataract surgeries require complete analysis of the patient’s pupil system. In the past, surgeons had little choice but to estimate pupil dimensions or to assume that pupils were “normal” sized for which standard size ablation dimensions were applied. This typically results in either too small of an ablation with lasting visual defects, or unnecessary removal of corneal tissue.

Custom surgery requires high definition data to achieve high resolution results. pMetrics has raised the standard of care by introducing a new level of detail for the surgeon, precisely measuring binocular pupil dimensions and reactivity dynamically in a full range of visual environments.

Additionally the Ideal Pupil is calculated utilizing the pupil’s dynamic responses to specific visual environments, lighting conditions, lifestyle weighting, and pMetrics proprietary statistical analysis system. The Ideal Pupil may be used by the surgeon as the basis for optical zone and IOL dimensions. Strong science is applied to eliminate one size-fits-all ablation dimensions.

The pMetrics system tests binocular pupil responses to 6 calibrated light conditions ranging from scotopic to photopic.
